82MAJOR Play Brain Rot Q&A While On The ‘82SYNDROME’ Tour

Whose photocards do 82MAJOR want to collect? Is boba tea or party in the Hollywood Hills more gnarly? From Nashville, your favorite boy group plays Brain Rot Q&A.

When 82MAJOR played Nashville, Tennessee for the first time last week, they joined a small number of K-Pop groups who had ever performed in Music City. Playing a southern city like Nashville might have been a risk for a rookie group, but 82MAJOR has built their career off of big gambles that play off. Their raw, highly energetic music is reminiscent of legends like BIGBANG, and they’ve quickly found a thriving fanbase called 82DE. Those fans showed out in a large force Monday night for the group, bringing freebies and a large amount of energy to Riverside Revival.

In a backstage interview before the show, the group was reflective and excited about playing Music City. As NAM SEONG MO explained, their training period prepared them for how intense tour life would be. “There were so many expectations for this tour,” he said, “but I feel like American performance culture really suits us.”

For YOON YE CHAN, playing Nashville fulfilled a dream that he’s had for years. “As a Canadian, Nashville is just very popular because of all the country artists who come out of here,” YE CHAN said. “It’s a music hub with all of the producers and songwriters. I’ve always wanted to come to Nashville, even by myself, so the fact that I’m here to perform. I thought it was kind of crazy, so I’m super stoked to be here.”

While 82MAJOR is not the first K-Pop group to play Nashville, they are among the first of a handful of K-Pop groups to perform in Music City. Mentioning this to the boys, the group expressed how honored they were to play for Nashville's 82DE. "We want to throw the energy out and leave no regrets," said HWANG SEONG BIN.

For this brain rot Q&A, we debated the meaning of KATSEYE’s “GNARLY”, gave SEONG IL the chance to save a member from hypothetically drowning, and discussed which musical artist deserved to have a collection of photocards made.

It was, as you’d expect, unhinged.

MICHAEL: Can you introduce yourself and say what your astrological sign is?

YOON YE CHAN: Oh, we have three Aries on the team, actually. I’m one of them.

MICHAEL: Oh, you definitely strike me as an Aries.

KIM DO GYUN : I’m Virgo.

NAM SEONG MO: I'm Aries.

PARK SEOK JOON: Sagittarius

HWANG SEONG BIN: I’m a Cancer. I just had my birthday last week!

CHO SEONG IL: Aries

MICHAEL: Alright, first hard-hitting question. SILENCE SYNDROME’s b-side “PASSPORT” says “you better bring your passport”. Where are we going and what are we doing?

YE CHAN: Well, it really just means that we are going to different countries to perform. That’s literally the whole meaning behind it. So you better bring a passport if you wanna see us, because we’re gonna be out.

Michael: I’m assuming all of you know about KATSEYE’s GNARLY, right? Choose which is more gnarly based on lyrics from the song: boba tea or party in the Hollywood Hills?

YE CHAN: I mean, party in the Hollywood Hills, right?

DO GYUN: Bubble tea.

SEOK JOON: Also, bubble tea.

SEONG BIN: I like boba tea too.

YE CHAN [cuts in, enthusiastically]: OKAY BUT - what is your definition of “gnarly” with these things? Because, you know, with the song, gnarly could be like, that’s cool, but gnarly could also mean, like, nasty. So, boba tea and party in the Hollywood Hills? GNARLY. It’s cool.

MICHAEL: I definitely see boba tea and a party in the Hollywood Hills as the cool kinda gnarly. But I personally like boba tea more. When it came out, everyone was debating whether this is satire or actually something cool. No one really knew.

YE CHAN: Yeah, that was me too.

MICHAEL: NEXT QUESTION. Choose one: Minecraft or League of Legends.

[82MJAOR collectively gasps.]

SEONG IL [without hesitation]: League of Legends.

SEONG MO: League of Legends!

SEOK JOON: Minecraft because I don’t play League of Legends.

YE CHAN: This is hard!

SEONG BIN: I’ll play League of Legends but I like watching Minecraft on YouTube and-

YE CHAN [cuts in]: He sucks at League of Legends.

MICHAEL: Call him out!

SEONG BIN [laughs]: No. I’m so bad!

DO GYUN:  I’ve never played computer games, ever, in my life.

YE CHAN: He doesn’t play games.

MICHAEL: Honestly, I don’t either. I’m just tapped in through my friends.

YE CHAN: Anyway, I think Minecraft.

MICHAEL: Okay so, SEONG IL, your members have fallen into the ocean. Who are you going to save and who is DROWNING? You have to let everyone die and one person live.

YE CHAN: Oh, that’s easy!

SEONG IL: So, who am I saving? No one can swim?

MICHAEL: Correct. Leader’s choice.

SEONG IL: This is difficult….

YE CHAN: Come on, it’s not that hard. It really isn’t that hard.

SEONG IL: I want everyone to have their time to defend themselves.

YE CHAN: Bro, I’ll die! KILL ME!

DO GYUN [softly]: Hey, please save me.

SEOK JOON [makes gurgling, drowning noises]: I’ll become a fish.

SEONG MO: SEONG IL, we have to play football and games together.

SEONG BIN: SEONG IL, I’ll give you half my money!

SEONG IL pauses to consider the pleas.

SEONG IL: I’m choosing SEONG MO.

YE CHAN: Whatever.

DO GYUN: Bye, guys.

SEOK JOON makes more drowning noises.

MICHAEL: NEXT QUESTION. If you could collect a photocard for any artist, who would it be? For me, it would be Beyonce or Lana del Rey.

SEONG IL: Bruno Mars.

YE CHAN: When you first asked the question, I was thinking of K-Pop. The first person I was thinking of was CL.

MICHAEL: Legend.

YE CHAN: But if we’re just talking about music in general, I think Kaytranada. He’s a DJ and producer.

SEONG BIN: Maroon 5

MICHAEL: Finally, who is an artist that had a major cultural impact on your home?

DO GYUN: Seo Taiji and the Boys

SEONG MO: BIG BANG

SEONG BIN: TEEN TOP

YE CHAN: Zac Efron in High School Musical 1, 2 and 3. Huge impact.

You can catch 82MAJOR on their <82SYNDROME> tour this summer. Do not miss this group.
